Yaama and welcome to Ngiilay Gift Boxes. A place where we showcase beautiful products made from and designed by people of the oldest continuing culture on the planet. It’s wonderful to be able to promote the work Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are doing and it really inspired us to start this journey.
Founded by Ondi and his wife Tegan, the concept of Ngiilay Gift Boxes come when we were looking at the beautiful range of Aboriginal products made from various people and trying to find presents for our extended family when we thought, “how bout we get a range of gifts and package them up into a hamper and give to them… hey wouldn’t it be cool if we put these together and share with people across the country” and this is how Ngiilay was started.
We live on the South Coast of NSW where we raise our 3 children. A proud Gomeroi man of the Yuwaalaraay language group through my grandmother who was born at Angledool, a small community in upper western NSW. She was unfortunately part of a generation where Government policies affected many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and she ended up at Cootamundra, on Wiradjuri country. This is where I grew up as a child and later moved to Wagga Wagga. Here is where I met my beautiful wife Tegan and after a few years in Wagga Wagga, we wanted a sea change and moved to Wollongong on the beautiful South Coast, Dharawal country.
We are passionate about bringing culture into our family and passing knowledge onto our children. We are fortunate enough to be able to connect to the mountain ranges and the sea on Dharawal country and be around strong cultural influences.
As a business that is 100% Aboriginal owned, we see the importance of supporting other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander businesses. Looking at the number of ‘Deadly’ Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander businesses popping up across our socials, we see Ngiilay has the opportunity to;
Monday – Friday 9am – 5pm
We acknowledge the Traditional Custodians throughout Australia and recognise their continual connection to culture, land and water ways. We acknowledge First Nations sovereignty has never been ceded, that this always was and always will be Aboriginal land. We Acknowledge and pay our respect to our old people who have gone back to the dreaming; our knowledge holders who are with us today and continue the oldest living culture on the planet.
We would also like to acknowledge the mob at Gamilaraay Yuwaalaraay Guladha for assisting us and guiding us on Yuwaalaraay language. www.yuwaalaraay.com .
